Lyric analysis - We'll be coming back'

To help us when planning our music video I have looked into the lyrics used in our chosen song 'We'll be coming back' by Calvin Harris.

"We'll Be Coming Back"
(feat. Example)

We took it all apart but I'm wishing I'd stayed
In the back room something I heard you say
We didn't wanna call it too early
Now it seems a world away but I miss that day
Are we ever gonna feel the same?

Standing in the light till it's over, out of our minds
Someone had to draw a line
We'll be coming back for you one day
We'll be coming back for you one day
I don't even care if I know you, out of our minds
Sad to leave it all behind
We'll be coming back
We'll be coming back for you one day

You can see it from afar, we were riding that wave
Blinded by the lights, and it's something I crave
We didn't want to call it too early
Now it seems a world away but I miss that day
Are we ever gonna feel the same?

Standing in the light till it's over, out of our minds
Someone had to draw a line
We'll be coming back for you one day
We'll be coming back for you one day
I don't even care if I know you, out of our minds
Sad to leave it all behind
We'll be coming back for you one day
We'll be coming back for you one day

Gonna rise, gonna fall, getting pulled apart
And we all do it all cause it stole our hearts
Gonna light up the skies, so ignore the stars
And we all do it all cause it stole our hearts

Standing in the light till it's over, out of our minds
Someone had to draw a line
We'll be coming back for you one day
We'll be coming back for you one day
I don't even care if I know you, out of our minds
Sad to leave it all behind
We'll be coming back for you one day
We'll be coming back for you one day
Looking at these lyrics I can can see that perhaps the most popular line used in the song is 'we'll be coming back for you one day', this suggests that a group or individual is returning to someone. This inspired me to base the narrative around a character (our artist) returning to a loved one and maybe even his girlfriend after following him on a journey.
Another phrase that I noticed is 'gonna rise, gonna fall', this could refer to how an individual can be a negative entente and who bears a nihilistic nature to becoming a successful and wealthy person with many accomplishments. This lyrical phrase inspired me in terms of creating a concept. For example I now think that that the journey should be based on the artist starting at the bottom and working his way up to becoming a success. There is also a sentence saying 'someone had to draw the line' I think that this means that someone had to make a potentially difficult decision, for example ending a relationship with somebody. Therefore I have decided to base the transformation of our protagonist on the fact that our artist is trying to win his girlfriend back after she breaks up with him. This again will fit in with the most common lyric used as ith is about coming back to someone as a changed person.
Towards the end of the song it says 'i don't even care if I know you', I think that this means that whoever the artist had feelings for has done something to change his attitude towards them in a negative way. Taking this into consideration I have decided that in the end of the narrative when our artist returns to his girlfriend he no longer has feelings for her and shows this by tricking her and pushing her off of him.

Storyboards

These are our storyboards, these were vital as we needed them to know what scenes, shots and locations we would be doing at what time. We followed our storyboard as best we could and only ignored it if there was a problem whilst filming which prevented us from following the storyboard.

Meetings

Meetings are important to carry out as they helped us when a decision that concerned us all needed to  be made. They allowed us to all express our opinions simultaneously which allowed us to come up with the most suitable and effective solutions to problems and general plans for the filming stage of our task. It allowed us to collaborate all of our ideas which I feel gave us the best result as we all specialized in different things which meant that we could take the best ideas from each group member and incorporated them into our video.

We worked well as a group as three of our four members were a group for media in the previous year and we are all good friends and who get on well together. This helped us a great deal as we all already new what each others strengths were which allowed us to delegate tasks to group members effectively.

Editing styles.

After the filming process we moved on to the editing stage in which we had all collaborated to come up with the editing styles that we felt were most important to include in our video.

One of these styles was continuity editing which is a style of editing in which the shots are put together to make chronological sense. We decided to use this style as we felt is it was the best way to show our story and therefore convey our concept easier. This technique is has been used throughout the whole video as it is a story and must make sense as it needs to be followed by its audience.

Another editing style that we decided to use was quick cuts or fast pace editing. This envolves putting shots together but in quick succession to create a fast paced feel to the video. This links in with our genre of music and helps to create a chaotic and energetic feel to the film. This technique will be used during the build up to choruses within our song.

The final editing style that we used was the montage technique which involves incorporating many shots and putting them together to tell short stores and show flashbacks or memories within the story. This style occurs two times nearer to the middle of the video to show the character having memories.
