Major Record Labels / Parent Companies

The definition of a record label is a large company within the music industry that may also own smaller record labels. The major record labels in the UK are currently EMI, Universal music group and Sony music.

EMI are a large company in the music industry and have signed many famous and recent artists. This is done through branching of into smaller subsidiary labels such as Capitol who are responsible for artists such as Katy Perry and Coldplay, Virgin who are responsible for Professor Green and another label would be Parlaphone who are responsible for artists such as Tinie Tempah.

Universal music group are also part of the music industries oligopoly and have many subsidiary record labels such as A&M who are responsible for big and well known artists such as the Black eyed peas
